Hotel De la Marine is an iconic monument on Place de la Concorde and a fine architectural ensemble that Ange-Jacques Gabriel, the king’s chief architect, made in the 18th century. Until 1798, it housed the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne, before becoming the headquarters of France’s navy ministry for over 200 years. 700 rooms building was more like a mansion or grand house for aristocrats, royal, famous & wealthy people. Napoleon & Josephine celebrated their wedding there. More than 100 mln € were spent on restoration of 12,000m2.
When France’s navy ministry left the building in 2015, responsibility for the Hôtel was given to the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, which was in charge of promoting this outstanding piece of cultural heritage. The large-scale restoration of the entire monument from 2017 to 2020 was held by historic monuments architect Christophe Bottineau, who added contemporary touches, while preserving original site.
Cour de l’Intendant is covered with a dazzling glass and mirror canopy, designed to collect and refract natural light. The main courtyard, the Cour d’Honneur, is carpeted with some 14,000 LED lights. Different kinds of temporary exhibitions dedicated to the art of French living will be held at this place.
Hotel de la Marine offers an exclusive dining experience with two Michelin restaurants & tea room.
